Interview Styles

Interview Styles

The style of the interview is the style of which the interviewer will approach the interview, interview styles depend on who your interviewing and why your are interviewing them. there are 6 different styles of interview each serve a different purpose.

The styles are:
  • Hard news
News that affects our daily lives, eg politics, government, and economics.
  • Human interest
A.K.A. soft news. news we are interested in but are not affected by, eg the royal baby being born.
  • Entertainment
No actual reason for the interview just a light hearted, fun interview.
  • Investigative
Trying to get to the bottom of a hard hitting topic eg documentaries
  • Promotions
Interviewing someone for promotional purposes only these are often celebrities with new product or a new album
  • Combative
This is quite an aggressive style of interviewing, mainly used for politicians.

this is a documentary on homeless people in Detroit, within this documentary it shows Stacey Dooley interviewing a lot of homeless people, to find out, how they ended up homeless, their lived before they were homeless, and how they feel about how they are living. this is investigative because she's finding out what happened to them, how they became homeless. and what are they doing now.

In this interview Kanye is talking to Ellen about his family and how he proposed to Kim Kardashian, this style of interview is human interest, this isn't a serious like changing topic, its pop culture so its something we are interested in and want to know about, its also a mix of entertainment because its light hearted, a lot of people would like to know about more about his relationship, his new family, and any new music that he might be working, its also entertaining to watch.

  1. Further outlining of styles needed as this is quite basic. Think further about your examples as I'm not convinced that these are the best examples. Investigative would be from documentary rather then celebrity. Think again please.
