Interview Purposes


There are 5 different types of purposes for interviews.

• Research

To gather knowledge on a certain topic, the interviewer will ask questions to delve deeper into the subject or topic to find out more information, this is usually used with politicians or people in government.

• Understand

To increase the audiences understanding of the topic, this is used during news shows where they cut away to a previously recorded 1 to 1 interview where the interviewee will talk about the topic in significant detail.

• Inform

To inform people of what's going on, usually used in chat shows and celebrity news, to inform the audience about an upcoming album or movie that they are in.

• Interpretive

To communicate your opinion of a topic or subject, this can used in any type of interview because its just the interviewing sharing their opinions on something and expressing them selves, it gives the interviewee an chance to get their opinions across.

• Emotional

To see the subject view someone else's point of view, this is used when interviewing victims, or relatives of the victims usually to get their opinion in things, and their outlook.
